A new year.  A new website.  A new start for Maria Newman Photography.

In January I made the decision to break away from past ties to other companies and restart Maria Newman Photography.  It has only been a few months, but I have been overwhelmed by the outpour of support I have received from friends, family, and even other photographers.  Wedding venues and vendors have reached out to me and welcomed me, friends have promoted me and hired me, and everything has fallen into place with as little resistance as possible.  I know the timing is right.  I am filled with passion and gratitude every day for this business and the opportunity to create and be my own boss.

For those of you that do not know much about me, hello and welcome.  My name is Maria.  I am from Antioch, California, in the East Bay Area, though I have spent the past 9 years living in the south (Mississippi, Louisiana & Texas).  I started Maria Newman Photography in 2007 when I was still in college.  I photographed a few weddings, but mainly did portraits at the time.  I graduated in 2010 with my B.A. in photojournalism and decided to move to Austin, Texas.  I fell in love with not only Austin, but also the Texas Hill Country.  It was in Austin that I truly began to pursue my dream of becoming a wedding photographer.  Even though my love for Austin runs deep, I found myself leaving temporarily in 2013 and moving to New Orleans to be closer to family.  In New Orleans I put Maria Newman Photography on hold to work with two other wedding photography companies, but I found myself longing for two things: my own company and Texas.  Because of this, I decided to put everything I had into Maria Newman Photography, as well as work in Austin again.  Currently, I plan on working in both Austin and Hattiesburg, where my family is.  Life is an adventure and I cannot wait to share this adventure with all of you.
